Understanding Bra Sizes
Your quick guide to understanding all the different Bra sizes and how to get an accurate measurement so that your bra fits well and last a bit longer. I strongly recommend you do NOT just go to Walmart and pick up you bra on your next shopping trip. The main reason is that bras don’t last long, they lose their elasticity they also cut into you, sag, or make your boobs look bumpy under your shirt and this is because it was the wrong bra size to begin with.
Get A Professional Bra Fitting
A HOT TIP: This can be done for FREE at boutique that specializes in bras and lingerie. All you need to do is say your looking for a bra that will fit properly and they will size you for FREE, then look around a bit at the different styles you may like and purchase one or simply walk out and now you have your perfect size and it cost you nothing.
One thing to note is that the quality of the bras in these types of boutiques are better then those at other stores like Zellers or Walmart. I would certainly recommend buying one of these higher quality bras if you are a big breasted. BIG BREASTED WOMEN NEED UNDERWIRE BRAS.
If you are worried about the wire, don’t be! They don’t cause cancer as some people may think. See Bras and breast cancer myths.
Taking Proper Measurements
The most important step is where you take your measurements. Most women will measure bra sizes right in the store with the sweaters and bras still on. This is your first mistake. To take an accurate measurement you need to remove your sweater and bra and let the breast be natural while holding your head up straight. Remember not to slouch forward.
You need to start by measuring you chest size without your breast and to do this you’ll need to measure under the bustline and be sure your tape measure is snug and straight across in the front and back. Most people measure on an angle and this will alter you measurements.
Here’s the key to proper bra sizes, If your measurement comes up with a half measurement, like 34 1/2, round it up to 35”. If you measure between 31 and 31 1/2, round it down to 31″. For this are of the chest we call it “Measurement 1″
Remember this is with your bra off. Next place the measuring tape under your arms and over the fullest part of the breasts after exhaling. Hold the tape straight and snug if your measurement is odd use the same rules as above. This will be “measurement 2″.
Next You’ll Need To Calculate Your Cup Size
The standard rule here is…If Measurement 1 is under 33 inches, add 5 inches to it. If this number comes out to be odd, then you need to round it up to the next EVEN number. If Measurement 1 is over 33 inches, you’ll need to add just 3 inches to it. If this number is odd, you’ll need to round it up to the next EVEN number also. Next you need to record this EVEN number down somewhere. This is your Band Size.
Calculating Bra Sizes
Now it’s time to subtract “measurement 1″ from “measurement 2″. Now take that number and look at the chart below to find you proper bra size.
0” – 1/2″ larger than measurement 1 – Your bra size is – “AA”
1” larger than measurement 1 – Your bra size is – “A”
2” larger than measurement 1 – Your bra size is – “B”
3” larger than measurement 1 – Your bra size is – “C”
4” larger than measurement 1 – Your bra size is – “D”
5” larger than measurement 1 – Your bra size is – “E”
6” larger than measurement 1 – Your bra size is – “F”
Quick Tips For the larger Bra Sizes
There is a quick test you can do on your existing bra or during your next bra fitting to determine if you have selected the proper bra sizes for your chest.
With your bra on, stand natural with your head up. You should be able to place two fingers between your breast. The breast should not be pushed together creating “Ass Cheeks” If you cannot get two finger between them then your bra is not properly fitted.
Another thing you should always do is make sure there are three sets of adjustment hooks on the back of the bra. When your trying on the bra it should fit comfortable on the first set of hooks.
This will allow you to adjust it tighter to the second and then third set of hooks as the bra begins to stretch and wear.
Higher quality bras will last you two or three times long then the traditional bras. Now you understand bra sizes better get a professional fitting and spend some money on yourself.
